Christmas Tree Decor
It’s a fact–a beautiful Christmas tree will always be the centerpiece of your Christmas home decor. Your Christmas tree may reflect your personal style–or it may be a montage of family tradition and homemade ornaments that has very special meaning.
Perhaps you’re ready to update your Christmas tree decor by choosing a particular color or theme for your tree. Using just a few designer tricks can add new life and drama to your tree–and it doesn’t have to break the bank!
Christmas Tree Lights
Christmas tree lights tend to create the most dramatic impact and are usually the least expensive decoration on your tree. Never skimp on the lights! You should use one strand of 100 lights for every foot of the tree (vertically). To illuminate the tree from the inside out, wrap the inside of the branches instead of just stringing them along the outside of the tree. It takes a little longer but is so worth the effort!
Can’t decide whether to use clear or multi-colored lights? Don’t decide–use both! Perhaps you could use clear lights inside the tree and string multi-colored lights along the outside of the tree–beautiful! Experiment until you find a lighting scheme that you love!
Garland
There are many different types of garland, any of which make for a beautiful tree. As a rule of thumb, use two strands of garland for every vertical foot of the tree. Beaded garland should be draped from branch to branch, while wider ribbon or foil garland should be loosely draped around the tree horizontally or vertically. Experiment with the placement of your garland to find the best look.
Ornaments
Hanging the ornaments is the funnest part of Christmas tree decor. Put your most cherished and important ornaments on first, placing them strategically so that they can be easily seen. Then fill in with Christmas ball ornaments and miscellaneous ornaments. Make a point to hang some ornaments on the inside of the tree and close to the trunk to add depth and fill in sparse areas of the tree.
To create a finished and beautiful effect, buy some clip-on Christmas doves or beautiful Christmas bows or berry sprigs and place them evenly around the tree to anchor and give your tree balance.
Don’t be afraid to try new things with your Christmas tree–it should be an expression of your taste as the centerpiece of your Christmas home decor!
