Christmas Home Decor On a Budget
If you’re like me, you look forward to celebrating Christmas with family and friends each year. In fact, when polled, most individuals indicated that Christmas is their all-time favorite holiday. One of the most enjoyable parts of Christmas is “decking the halls” of your home with beautiful Christmas decorations. While decorations can get quite expensive, your Christmas home decor doesn’t have to break the bank. There are quite a number of ways to decorate your home for Christmas on a budget.
One of the most effective ways to cut the cost of decorating for Christmas is to take an inventory of what you have on hand before you go shopping for new decorations. Impulse buying and Christmas seem to go hand-in-hand…we’ve all been there. It’s important to begin by focusing on what rooms you would like to decorate for Christmas and then get specific about how you would like to decorate these rooms. This in itself will help you avoid buying decorations that are unnecessary. Compare this list against your inventory of decorations on hand and you’re almost ready to hit the stores.
Once you have a list of Christmas decoration to purchase, decide beforehand what your Christmas home decor budget will be. This is the most important tasks. If you go shopping without a clear number in mind, it will be very easy to overspend when you find yourself among all of the shiney Christmas ornaments and tinsel. Try to remember–the goal is to save money. Try to remember, the more money you save on decorations, the more you will have to spend on Christmas gifts and a wonderful Christmas dinner for your family.
Your next consideration should be where to find cheap, but nice, decorations. Try your local dollar store–you may be surprised at the selection. Some may assume that items bought at a dollar store are poor in quality, but that’s not necessarily the case. The great thing about Christmas decorations is that they don’t have to be expensive to accomplish the task of making your home beautiful for the holidays. In fact, I’ve come across some lovely Christmas decorations for a dollar, or even less! You could easily come away with beautiful Christmas pictures, table centerpieces, twinkle lights and tree decorations that will absolutely make your Christmas home decor “pop”!
Don’t have time to drive around town looking for the best deals? Try shopping on-line at E-bay, Amazon–or perhaps one of the shop at home networks like Shop NBC, QVC or HSN. These places typically have beautiful Christmas decorations for reasonable prices that won’t blow your Christmas budget. You’ll be amazed at the selection. Shipping costs will apply, but many of these sites have reduced shipping around the holidays to entice people to shop with them.
You might even keep an eye out for yard sales that are advertising to get rid of gently used Christmas decorations around the holidays. These sales are probably your cheapest solution, though it can be hit-or-miss in terms of catching one. As a matter of fact, you can shop for Christmas decor at yard sales year-round and probably save a bundle!
One of the best money saving strategies is to wait for the after Christmas sales on decorations. It’s easily possible to get as much as 50% to 75% off Christmas decorations at this time of year. It just takes a little pre-planning, but is well worth the savings. Your Christmas home decor doesn’t have to suffer because you’re on a budget–who isn’t these days! You may be surprised at how beautiful your home will look for the holidays! And you did it all on a budget!
